Preparing a Curated Set
Follow these steps to have your perspective on art/science integration recognized in our Showcase section and join a growing number of contributors to this collaborative effort.
Step 1: Select Works
Identify between three and five works that you feel represent the value and prospects of working across disciples; particularly where design and arts perspectives enrich science and engineering.
Step 2: Describe Works
For each work prepare a short narrative which: gives a summary overview of the work; the reasons you chose it; explains its interdisciplinary nature; and describe it's innovation and impact.
Step 3: Describe connections
Write a short 500 to 800 word introduction to your selections. This Foreword should outline the connection between the works and be written with the broadest possible audience in mind.
Step 4 Submit it
Using our form at, http://bit.ly/xseadcurate, submit your content. After reviewing the content, we'll prepare it to be presented online and let you know when it's ready!

Below are some commonly asked questions about XSEAD and Content Curation. If you have a question that isn't answered here, drop us an email at [email protected]
HOW CAN I CONTRIBUTE?
You can contribute to XSEAD by submitting a set of works to the Showcase. The set consists of three to five works that illustrate a trend or represent an interdisciplinary process within the field of art-science integration. Each set will build visual explanations of integrative works, delivering your perspective on the history and prospects of the field.
I'D LIKE TO CONTRIBUTE BUT...
We can help! Get in touch and we can talk about supporting you in preparing your selections for the Showcase section. Our email is [email protected].
WHAT IS XSEAD?
XSEAD is an online platform for those working across disciplines: design, the arts, engineering and science. It is a home for creative works, innovative processes and explained outcomes that cut across traditional boundaries. Funded by the National Science Foundation, it is a multisite initiative meant to develop technology solutions to support the community of art/science, provide a place to archive past collaborations, and feature emerging trends in the field.

WHAT IS SHOWCASE?
Showcase is one of the main sections of the XSEAD platform. This is where we exhibit (or “showcase”) exemplary works of art/science integration through the form of sets. Each set builds visual explanations of integrative works, representing a perspective on the history and prospects of the field.
In the past, distinguished organizations and community leaders have partnered with XSEAD to develop these sets. To see examples, please visit http://xsead.cmu.edu/showcase
WHAT IS A SET?
A Set is a small collection consisting of three to five works. They are bridged together under a single theme or idea in order to illustrate how innovation and creativity enrich the field of art/science.
Each set is prefaced by a foreword that describes the integration of art and science found in the works it features. Past sets include Trans Media, a set about interactive gaming, and Tech Couture, a set with works of wearable technology. See more examples at http://xsead.cmu.edu/sets
WHAT IS CONSIDERED A WORK?
Whatever you want it to be.
We are being vague on purpose. In the past, our curators did not limit themselves to defining works as single projects or works of art. “Works” can be collaborations, organizations, or collections. They can span genres, from fashion to media art to video games. As long as the works tie together in a coherent set, you have the freedom to define “works” however you like.

DO I NEED TO BE A CURATOR BY PROFESSION?
You do not have to be a curator by profession to participate in our showcase initiative. We are looking for people with insights in the field of art/science who want to share their perspective on past works or emerging trends.
CAN I LIST THIS ON MY CV?
Absolutely! We encourage it. As an XSEAD Content Curator, you will be a recognized contributor to the initiative and participating in a community effort to advance an understanding of the impact of art-science integration.
AM I RECOGNIZED / ACKNOWLEDGED ?
Definitely! Your participation and contribution will be listed online within the XSEAD platform and all content you develop directly attributed to you. Your contribution to this multidisciplinary reference space will also be recognized in project reporting to the National Science Foundation and partner organizations.
